Week 1: Role of Media in Education

Week 1 commenced with a grand introduction of

ourselves before we engaged in what seems to be a

45 hour technological journey!

OPERATION:
Who would've thought that the first class would be filled with so many learning activities. After a grand introduction to Mrs. Marsh-Roberts, our very spirited lecturer and basic introduction amongst ourselves we were thrown into the deep!

"Get into groups of  3s or 4s, research 'mind mapping' with any form of media then your group will present it in a creative way'

Like Really? I don't even know half these people! Well, let's just say I made some new friends and so this group journey began!

My 3 strand group was a force to be reckoned with! Dijonya, Katrin and I quickly went to work, assaulting the internet for information. We then collated our findings and presented it in the form of a news paper. Due to my scribal impediment I was only able to suggest ideas and give information. Dijonya however, quickly pulled colored markers out of nowhere and designed like a Boss!

GROUP PRESENTING!

After group presentations we went on to focus a bit more of the Role of Media in Education:

To Help/Improve the learning process.

6 Categories of media:
Visual
Audio
Written
Video
People
Manipulative
Anything we use to make learning easier is called educational technology.

In the second part of our lesson we went on to the various learning styles & theories!

We were exposed to a refined definition to learning, types of learners, theories of learning and Howard Gardner's theory of multiples intelligence. And so it continued!

What is Learning?
Learning is a permanent change in behavior in the acquisition of knowledge skills and attitudes as individuals construct meaning of their environment from different experiences.

CONCLUSION:
I saw the importance of technology and many ways I could in-cooperate it into my classroom: Each of my students would have a different style of leaning, therefore playing a video, utilizing charts, speaking, giving a hands on demonstration are all methods that should be explored to cater to the various learning styles.
